The Machine

The machine looks like some kind of typewriter. It has the same arrangement of keys and an ink ribbon, but with several more electrical parts. Wires stream out of the back of the typewriter-like component and feed into a much larger, more complicated configuration of gears and circuits. You look closer at the long roll of paper streaming out of the machine, and notice something strange about what's written on it. It seems like whoever owns this cabin has been typing out dialogue, but if they're writing a story it doesn't appear to have a logical narrative thread. It reads more like a transcription of letters back and forth, with greetings and exhanges of news and thoughts. But why would they be typed out in one long stream like this?
